Parkwood at a glance

Parkwood is an older established suburb forming part of the much sought after area known as "The Parks".

It lies between Rosebank & Saxonwold on the East side & Parktown North & Parkview on the west side.  Jan Smuts Ave divides Parkwood into upper & lower whilst Oxford Road borders the upper, west side. Lying between these two main roads which are major traffic routes, enables the residents to be conveniently situated to many amenities

Parkwood appeals to both the Executives & families.  Excellent proximity to the Business Hubs of Rosebank, Illovo, Melrose, Houghton & Jhb CBD is a huge advantage.  Sandton CBD is slightly further but an easy commute.  Rosebank Gautrain Station is nearby, the Freeway is easily accessible and an efficient Public Transport & Taxi Service operates on both Oxford Rd & Jan Smuts Ave.

Choice of Schools for families is exceptional.  Private Schools close by are St John's, Rodean Girls, The Ridge, St Katherine's, Kingsmead, Pridwin  & St Teresa's Convent.  Government Schools are KES, Greenside High, Parktown Boys & Parktown Girls High. Wits University Campus is a 15 minute drive at most.

First class medical facilities are in neighbouring suburbs.  Rosebank Netcare Clinic, Milpark Clinic, Wits Donald Gordon Hospital, Park Lane Clinic, Genesis Birth Clinic & the Government Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke are all within a 5km radius.

Parkwood Residents are spoilt for choice when it comes to entertainment.  Being on the doorstep of Rosebank means one can enjoy a selection of Boutiques, Galleries, Cinemas, Restaurants & the popular weekly Rosebank Rooftop Market.  The larger upmarket Malls of Sandton & Hyde Park are within a 15 minute drive.

Close by too are the Village Suburbs of Greenside, Parkhurst, Norwood & Melville.  These are trendy with Pavement Cafes, Restaurants, Antique Shops & Quirky Décor Outlets.

One of the most frequented Parks in Johannesburg is Zoo Lake which borders Parkwood. This scenic expanse is a favourite with Joggers, Dog walkers, Amblers & Children. The sprawling, treed Johannesburg Zoo also has much to offer.

Golf enthusiasts can choose from Wanderers, Parkview, Killarney or Houghton Golf Clubs, all of which boast pristine Courses.                                                   Wanderers Main Club, Country Club Auckland Park & Pirates Club are close by and have numerous activities to offer.

Parkwood has an extraordinary Community Spirit with several neighbourhood groups.  Four different Security Companies patrol the suburb 24/7 to ensure safety of residents.  This provides peace of mind for all the cyclists & joggers that enjoy exercising in the tree lined streets.

Properties in Upper Parkwood are more expensive than Lower probably due to the fact that it is neighbouring Saxonwold.  The erfs in both areas are in excess of    1000 sqm and have established lush gardens.  The houses are large older homes with plenty of charm or else have been stylishly renovated with exceptional finishes.

The past years have seen the recent development of large Townhouse & Apartment complexes in Lower Parkwood.  These are compact one to three bedroom units which are in complexes with 24 hour security.  They appeal largely to young singles or couples starting out and are perfect for those wanting a "lock up & go".

Parkwood's ideal location has not compromised the tranquillity of the area.  It is a desired address and has seen good growth.
