Marloth Park at a glance

Marloth Park is a wildlife sanctuary and holiday township situated on the southern boundary of the Kurger National Park. It boasts four of the "Big Five" with the exception of elephant.  Lions, buffalo and rhino are confined to Marloth's game reserve "Lionspruit". The rest of the game such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, kudu, impala, bush buck, duiker and warthogs are not restricted by fences and roam freely between homes on 3000 ha.

With dangerous game restricted, you can take a walk along the Crocodile River of a mountain bike ride on many of the dirt roads, It is a birder's paradise.

Situated between Malelane and Komatipoort, two entrance gates can be used to the world renown Kruger National Park. The Crocodile bridge gate 14kms and Malelane gate 35 kilometres. Marloth Park is a stopover point for tourists travelling to the Kruger National Park with easy access to Mozambique and Swaziland. It features a humid, subtropical climate with mild winters and hot summers.

Marloth Park is a place to find peace and solace. The feeling of immersion in a pristine wilderness area is something that only a few of us are lucky enough to experience. It is a place where the complications of our world disappear. The sounds of never-ending traffic and police sirens are nowhere to be seen or heard, and instead they are replaced by a multitude of tuneful birdcalls, an underlying cacophony of insect life, the whooping of a distant hyena, the echoing roar of a lion or the crack of a branch as a gentle creature forage. 

Our Life is spent rushing from one thing to another, ruled by time and the need to ascribe meaning to everything. We have forgotten how to truly relax and discover our true self. Yes, television and the comfort of a sofa sound like a great way to relax, but be assured, that it is no substitute for sitting next to a flowing river, watching the setting sun's rays dance across the water as the golden light of an African evening filters through the clouds, giving the whole scene a magical hue.  Enjoying an early cup of coffee as the fiery, golden sphere rises up, spreading its magnificent rays of light everywhere, the trees seem to emanate the light and shine it back at us like something out of a fairy tale. Colours that cannot be put in words. 

The holistic effect of the African bush is often overlooked. People come to the bush to tick off their bucket list and list of animals, but many will miss the true meaning of being lost in one of South Africa's most primeval wilds. It is a place to find ourselves, to revisit primitive nature and experience what life used to be like before the dawn of technology. There is no alternative for just sitting quietly and contemplating life in such a picturesque place just appreciating the beauty and wonder of nature in her purest shape.

This is what the Marloth Park is all about, and the reason that so many of us come to the bush. The 'real' world can be fun, but only in small doses. The bush gets under your skin and for some, it will change their life, and their outlook on it, forever.

SKYWAY TRAILS

Experience the freedom of gliding over one of the last remaining natural forested valleys along the Sabie River adjacent to the Kruger National Park. The aerial cable trail takes you down into the valley basin, stopping along the way on a number of elevated platforms to admire the natural vegetation, birdlife and the views of the forest floor below. 

LOWVELD NATIONAL BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Lowveld National Botanical Garden is divided into eight sections with the Crocodile and Nels rivers surging through the riparian forest. The garden has a tropical African rainforest section, with approximately six hundred indigenous plant species. 

The other seven sections are the bulb garden, the South African rainforest, dry bushveld, corkwoods and cabbage trees, cycads, baobabs and wild figs. The 158-hectare escarpment boasts rugged, rocky river scenery with Sour Lowveld Bushveld vegetation on either side of the river banks. 

The garden is a floral haven with masses of clivia miniata, snow-white pear blossoms and kigelia africana flowers scattered all around. Visitors can find birds feeding off the nectar of the magnificent flowers that attract birds from dawn to dusk, or enjoy a picnic on the lawn.

SHANGANA CULTURAL VILLAGE

At the core of Shangana Cultural Village is a busy African market where local craftspeople work and trade their crafts. 

Trained guides take guests on informative and interactive trips to villages during the daytime as well as midday tours with lunch and the famous Evening Festival in the Chief's Kraal. 

Shangana was created and built by the local Shangaan people and is a source of great pride. The village preserves their rich heritage and is an example of South Africa's great cultural diversity. 

MAKHONJWA MOUNTAINS HERITAGE SIGHT

The recent declaration of Makhonjwa Mountains in Mpumalanga, known as the Barberton Greenstone Belt as the world heritage site by UNESCO has enhanced the province and the country's tourism destinations.

The Makhonjwa Mountains is one of the world's oldest geological site has the best preserved volcanic and other rock formations dating back 3.8-billion years.

Whenever you descend to Mpumalanga especially the low veld, never think of only the Kruger National Park as the main tourist destination.
